How Dermal Fillers Reverse the Signs of Aging
The reason that dermal fillers are so effective at reducing the most common signs of aging, which include wrinkles, fine lines, creases and sagging, is that these issues are caused by a loss of volume. When you’re young, your body produces plenty of collagen, which is what supports your skin. The layer of collagen and elastic tissue hat exists under your skin ensures that skin stays taught and that it is smooth.
As you age, collagen and elastin production slows. Additionally, if you’re like many people, you may have done things when you were younger to reduce the amount of collagen in your skin. Smoking, tanning and too much time in the sun without sunscreen are all contributors to an early reduction of collagen and a slowing of its production.
When your skin no longer is propped up by as much collagen, you’ll start seeing wrinkles. People also tend to lose fat in their face as they get older, which only makes the problem worse. However, much of this can be reversed by replacing the lost volume in your face, which is where soft tissue fillers come in.
Soft tissue fillers can be injected into areas where fat and collagen loss cause the most obvious problems. Frequently targeted locations are the areas around your nose and mouth, your cheeks and temples, your lips and even your hands.

Types of Dermal Fillers
There are several different types of fillers that can treat a variety of issues, including everything from reducing the appearance of wrinkles to sculpting and contouring your face. We only use safe and effective FDA-approved fillers.
To determine which filler is best for you, we’ll discuss your expectations and areas of concern during a consultation. Each filler has its own benefits, and many are designed to target specific areas and types of wrinkles and folds.
Restylane
This injection is a hyaluronic acid filler, and it has been used more than 10 million times worldwide. It is normally used to help add volume to lips and contour them, but it is also frequently used to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Restylane is normally used to soften smile lines, which appear around the nose and mouth, marionette lines also known as frown lines, superficial lines around the mouth and Crow’s feet. It can also be used to add volume under and around the eyes.

Restylane Silk
This lip enhancer is a refined smooth gel formulation that allows for a subtle, natural result. Specifically designed for precise lip definition and line control, Restylane Silk brings a higher level of artistry to your result with a unique silky smooth formulation of hyaluronic acid allowing for natural shape that just hasn’t been available until now.
Restylane Lyft
Restylane Lyft is designed to target more pronounced wrinkles. In particular, it is used to soften smile lines and marionette lines, which tend to be deeper than other types of wrinkles, and is great for cheek lifting and contouring.
Juvéderm
Juvéderm is hyaluronic acid filler that is designed to target facial folds and wrinkles, and it is specifically used to target smile lines. It can be used to soften wrinkles and add volume to the lips. Both Juvederm and Restylane have a molecular structure that helps them to last longer than many other hyaluronic acid fillers.
Voluma
Juvederm is known for its high-quality hyaluronic acid fillers, and Voluma is no exception. Signs of facial aging often include significant volume loss and sagging in the cheek area, resulting in a hollow, tired appearance. Juvederm Voluma XC is a long-lasting hyaluronic acid filler that is uniquely formulated to address these concerns. Voluma is injected deep into the cheeks for subtle volume and lift without surgery. This filler can greatly improve the overall appearance of the face, with effects that can last up to 2 years.
Volbella (for lips and fine lines)
Volbella is another Juvederm derivative, this time for enhancing the appearance of the lips. Hyaluronic acid fillers are ideal for natural-looking lip augmentation and the fine lines that often appear around the mouth. Volbella is a unique hyaluronic acid filler that is specifically designed for this high movement area. While many fillers only last up to six months when injected into the lips, trials and patients have shown that Volbella tends to last much longer—up to about 12 months, on average.
Belotero
Another hyaluronic acid based injection, Belotero is specifically designed to target superficial wrinkles, and it works particularly well in the areas between the nose and mouth and on smile lines. Instead of just providing volume, Belotero also fills in etched lines in the skin by integrating with your skin. It is also great for replacing volume loss under the eyes.

Radiesse
Radiesse is a calcium hydroxylapatite injection that provides both immediate volume and helps to stimulate collagen production for additional improvement. You’ll see instant results following the injection, but you should see volume for much longer because your body replaces the collagen lost to aging. This soft tissue filler is also frequently used to contour cheekbones, chins and to plump the hands.

Sculptra
This injection is made of poly-L-lactic acid, and it was designed to help patients who have experienced lipoatrophy, which is the loss of facial fat. Sculptra can be used to help soften wrinkles and it is used to replace large amounts of lost volume in the face. Along with helping to boost collagen production, Sculptra is also designed to help thicken skin, which provides a fuller looking face and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.
Bellafill
Acne scarring is often extremely difficult to treat, and can cause a negative impact on self-esteem and confidence. Made from collagen and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres, Bellafill is one of the longest-lasting soft tissue fillers on the market. Bellafill can help improve the appearance of acne scarring and deep facial folds, like the nasolabial creases. Improvement has shown to be long-lasting, with patients seeing the results even 5 years later!

Soft Tissue Filler FAQs
Who is a candidate for soft tissue fillers?
The development of fine lines and wrinkles will depend on your genetics and how well you’ve taken care of your skin, but most people begin to take advantage of these procedures starting in their 20s.
Are soft tissue fillers safe?
The soft tissue fillers that we use are FDA approved, and they have been tested in labs repeatedly to ensure that they are safe. Many of the tissue fillers are made with things that are found naturally in the body, so there’s no issue of allergic reactions or your body rejecting the filler.
How long do the results last?
Results can last anywhere from eight months up to two years or longer. How long they last will depend on the individual patient, which filler is used, and where it is used.
Is the injection process painful?
We strive to make the process as quick and easy as possible, and there is no anesthesia required. However, we can provide topical anesthesia, if desired. This means that you can get back to your day as soon as your procedure is complete.
How long does it take to get soft tissue fillers?
The process is quick, easy and non-surgical, and it can be completed in our office. Proper placement and artistry is taken into account during the procedure so while some procedures can be completed in as little as 10 minutes, they can sometimes take up to 30 minutes.
Will it look like I’ve had work done?
We want you to still look like you! Our goal is to give you a more refreshed, natural look. Soft tissue fillers are only taking your face back in time to when it had natural fillers of collagen and fat. We’ll discuss the exact type of results you’re looking for during a consultation, and we will work with you to provide the results that you expect and will feel comfortable with.
